JIO Mobile

Jio or Reliance Jio as it is popularly known shook the country with the commercial launch of its mobile and internet services on 5th September 2016.It is an entirely owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries,which has its headquarters in Mumbai,India. It is currently the only 'VoLTE' operator in the country and has coverage across all the 22 telecom circles in India. The services were first launched on 27 December 2015 and the services were made available exclusively to Jio's partners and employees on that day.

Jio Mobile's strategy

Reliance Jio had invested around 150,000 crores in the optical fiber network which is essential for internet connectivity. This optical fiber network of Jio is still one of the longest in the country ranging over 2.5 lakh kilometres. The money invested by Jio in this is approximately twice the combined investment plans of all the other Indian networks put together.

So to earn back the money they introduced a host of offers. The company wanted to have maximum internet subscribers. They launched various offers that began with giving discounts on call rates. Internet was offered at very low rates. So a lot of 

people switched to Jio which resulted in a huge loss for the other players in the market such as Airtel, Vodafone etc.

According to Mukesh Ambani,the founder of Jio,India now ranks no.1 in data usage. In the future the company plans to double the data capacity. This strategy will undoubtedly make the company richer by helping them to amass huge profits. They have already earned the money they invested in laying optic cables. Hence this success story of Mukesh Ambani is being lauded by the people of this country.


Other Products

It launched JIO phone in July 2017.It is the first affordable 4G powered phone to hit the Indian market. One has to just pay 1500 rupees as a security deposit to buy this phone and the amount will be returned back to the customer once they return the phone after a period of three years.


4G broadband – With this feature launched in September 2016,the company offered 4G data and voice services and one could also have instant access to services like instant messaging,movies and music. It is also in talks with local cable operators to get broader connectivity for its broadband services. It also has a stake in TV channel distribution and is planning to offer television on demand to its users.
